we had a horse which Mother kept downtown.......there are still homes a few blocks from the courthouse...with stables......no horses, however........there remain a few servants' quarters behind some of the older homes.......now, they're rented to college students.....the irony! ..sometimes, on the way to far North Georgia, i see people riding horses on the main highway to Highlands........I was always afraid of horses.....even the ones on the calliope......they knew it, too!
