Posted by PicasaMost people don't know lawn mowers are the highest Co2 emitters of all engines legal in the u.s.

FACT: one hour of mowing is the equivalent of driving 350 miles in terms of volatile organic compounds.

Fact: One gas mower spews 87 lbs. of the greenhouse gas CO2, and 54 lbs. of other pollutants into the air every year.

Fact: Over 17 million gallons of gas are spilled each year refueling lawn and garden equipment – more oil than was spilled by the Exxon Valdez.

I just bought a new corded electric lawn mower and received some flack over this....one acquaintenance told me that it was more environmentally friendly to buy a rechargeable....and i agree that it would be more convenient.....another told me that it was "better" to get an "old-fashioned" gas mower.......both were misguided by their own prejudices, i think.....for some reason, it never occurs to most Americans....that the best mower....all things considered....is the even more old fashioned push mower.........but, Oh!....MY ACHING BACK!

naturally, the BEST thing is to not have a lawn At All......interestingly enough and ironically enough.....even though the "neighborhood" encourages its occupants to refrain from water use, because of the constant drought conditions.......it's coalition gestapo spyguards are quick to come down on any homeowners that keep unmanicured lawns.......compelling many to continually mow grass!
