Lame' Icons

in the fringe area between The Who and Disco BeeGees were the likes of Peter Frampton, whose album, "Sopwith Camel", remains very listenable......Frampton was a popular pin-up for a few years and possessed considerable talent, for a pop star, although his work never reached high tide popularity.......he is, like so many old rock stars, resting on his reruns like SHOW ME THE WAY...later attempts at regaining the spotlight...like (grab) A FUNKY CHICKEN, DOUBLE NICKELS or BLACK HOLE SUN are difficult to recall...Digging out Sopwith has revitalized my philosophical meanderings about "timeless art" and "transcendental poetry".......It seems that the popular culture is fueled by flash-in-the-pan art that is enjoyed and forgotten.....except for the nostalgia-dwellers who honestly believe that the pop culture of their youth is actually more meaningful than that of today......a bunch of malarky, i think.......i can listen to "beep beep" or "the monster mash" which were popular when i was 12, with some amusemental nostalgia, but i hardly think they are of any real importance.......and, by the way, "Sopwith Camel" is still listenable enough just as Eminem's Marshal Mather's songs will be in 30 or 40 years......
