In order to hide its violent repression in Tibet, particularly as it seeks to project an image of stability and unity in the build-up to the Olympics, China has sealed off virtually the entire plateau -- despite promising increasing openness prior to the Games.

It was indeed the 11th reincarnation of the Panchen Lama that provoked the current conflict between the atheist state and Buddhist religion. In 1995 the Dalai Lama anointed a six-year-old boy, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, Panchen Lama. But in opposition to the Dalai Lama’s influence, China kidnapped the boy and his family and chose – by a method which Beijing maintains more practical and true – another boy, Gyaincain Norbu. Norbu has since become a propagandist of the Chinese governments’ religious policies in Tibet, while Nyima has been held captive for over 12 years.

I am saddened that The United States continues to support the current Regime.......
and that our President will attend the games.....I am not a religious person, at all,
yet I cannot condone the evils of the Chinese Government...... The Olympic Games will be a great show, beneath which....a cruel and autocratic system continues to surpress freedom and liberty......support The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy!
