"where the choctaws, chickasaws and cherokees play, and we have lots of fun every night and day, Dunroamin, Camp Dunroamin" For three summers after 4th-6th grade, i resided near Fayetteville, Tennesse at a camp run by retired vaudeville performers, Gerald and Havelin Gerrish.......This was a successful attempt, by my Mother, to transform me into a disciplined, social animal that could be presented at court.....shy and awkward at first, i was transformed into a popular, if eccentric, figure there....and became, ultimately, the Chief of the three tribes, attending the final ceremonies in a large Sioux feathered headdress, having been voted most popular, having made the most creative woven basket and having defeated the defending swim champion with my exemplary exibition of the inverted breast stroke....i returned home with Busby Berkeley blonde platinum hair, a product of ammonia and peroxide.......what a boost to my confidence........now i was ready for anything.....even Miss Irene Jones School of Dance and Social Etiquette!
