WOOLWORTH'S CHAMPION

many kids, in the 1950's, were eager to ride "Champion", Gene Autry's horse, which was ready to gallop at the local Woolworth's Store.....Riding the silly thing made me vomit, as did the merry-go-round, tilt-a-whirl and even the teeter-totter......sensitive semi-circular canals of my inner-ear, I was told by Dr. Grote, our family's physician. So, when downtown, as a youngster, I headed for the chocolate shop next to the Lyric Theatre for chocolate covered orange peels and wagered on
the filmed horse races in the pre-show extravanganza there......I have always preferred chocolate and movies to horses...
sorry, Barbara!
