the connely portrait.....such is Life

i was just saddened by the belated news of Carole Connely's death, suddenly, of heart failure.....two years ago! Carole was commissioned to paint a portrait of me for my Mother.....thirty years ago.....Carole did two large portraits, both of which Mother found unacceptable......As i look at the "reclining" portrait, and recall the old silk-embroidered cashmere robe which was eaten by moths, years ago...even the shantung silk belt....the gossamer fern was left, unattended, for a week, while i was in England..and met a premature death......someday, i will have bit the dust and only the maple recamier will have survived.....the lapis ring was stolen by Lee Cady, a confused, alcoholic goldsmith who was to have sized it, retaining the inscription of my Father's name.....the painting reminds me so much of the fleeting of Life.....
